Escape from the stresses of urban living in Mollymook Australia

Pirates, aborigines and white settlers all found Mollymook idyllic in nature. Blessed with a treasure trove of temperate weather, mysterious caves and gleaming beaches, this little town located along the New South Wales coast is just waiting to be discovered by the individual or family looking for fun and adventure in a hedonistic setting.

This town is quite handily located almost equal distance between the cities of Canberra and Sydney, both less than a three hour scenic drive away. This allows it to serve as the perfect base for the vacationer wanting to discover as much of the area as possible.

The economy is based on tourism retail and the lodging income, but everything one might need that can’t be found here is available five minutes away in Ulladulla.

The coveted beaches here are celebrated for their beauty, golden sand and perfect surf. The many summer carnivals, contests, both state and national bring surfers from all over the world to compete. The beaches, also known for their cleanliness and safety draw swimmers of all kinds to enjoy the cool, clear water and landlubbers who prefer to lounge in the sun and enjoy the ambiance.

Finding a place to stay in is no hassle either, as the choice of Mollymook beach accommodation is wide and varied ranging from 5 star luxury hotels to modern camp grounds, all near the beaches. For the culinary traveler Mollymook offers a delicious mix of cuisines and even upscale eateries for those with more refined tastes.

Its location places it as a central site from which one can easily visit many fascinating and beautiful places. Of particular interest are two nearby parks; Morton National Park, a scenic wonderland of extravagant waterfalls and exotic vegetation, and Pigeon House Mountain and Murramarang an unmatched natural paradise. The parks both offer exciting activities including bush walking along easy trails, or for the more adventurous, hikes through abandoned coal mines and along challenging escarpments.

Though Captain Cook first stepped on these shores way back in 1770, he discovered the area was already inhabited by indigenous peoples who “appeared to be of black or very dark colour”, a statement that was later confirmed by the discovery of local caves and artifacts that supported the idea that Mollymook had been originally inhabited by differing Aboriginal groups prior to the arrival of white settlers in 1859. The name itself appears to have been derived from a small local species of albatross known as the mollymawk which was later misspelled as “Molly Moke” when a local community house was later dubbed with the name.

The road to this paradise is a sliver of highway stretched between the endless ocean, who siren like waves calls one to their side and a spectacularly indescribable escarpment, like something out of a dream or fantasy that you can make a reality. Mollymook, with all it has to offer, its beautiful beaches, prospects for adventure, unforgettable beauty is a vacation destination that no one should miss.
