City Breaks In Bournemouth, England and Important Things To Know

Bournemouth is a vibrant, thriving and amazingly exciting city, despite the unfortunate fact that it is known as ‘God’s waiting Room’. The sad reason why it is called this is that many people choose to retire here. However, the city of Bournemouth has an amazing youth culture, with a a high proportion of university and language students. Obviously such a place would be a excellent place to have some fun however, there is plenty  more to the place. In actual fact Bournemouth is incredibly popular with groups of all ages, the most likely reason why there are so many establishments offering Bournemouth bed and breakfast to choose from.

Bournemouth is situated on the English South coast, approximately 100m from of London. Bournemouth, the biggest town on the south coast, is extensively known for its 7m of splendid golden sandy beaches and glistening deep blue sea. It is the city of Bournemouth’s fabulous location that caused it to become an amazingly popular tourist destination since the beginning of the eighteen hundreds. It is pretty difficult to imagine that Bournemouth was,  in 1800, nothing less than a barren and remote moorland mainly consisting of common land except for Sir George Ivison Tapps’. In the year 1809 a public house appeared on the moor, the Tapps Arms, a couple of years after this, in eighteen twelve, the first people, a retired army officer and wife, moved in.

Lewis Tregonwell and his wife bought a little land, from Sir George Ivison Tapps, on which the couple constructed a series of villas with a sea view the idea being to let them in the summer months for vacations. Lewis Tregonwell also built a nearby summerhouse. and also began to plant hundreds of pine trees, creating a beautiful sheltered walk leading to the beach, , the Invalid’s Walk as it was called later.

Ever since those early days Bournemouth’s popularity, as a vacation destination, has increased continually, and today, it is  widely known as a tourist haven for entertainment, culture, leisure, fun and recreation. The best places to visit include; the award winning Central Gardens, the graveyard of St. Peters Church, the Russel-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum and Bournemouth Pier.

If you are in the process of considering spending a few weeks in Bournemouth it is incredibly important that you book your  accommodation at the earliest moment as, sadly hotel accommodation in Bournemouth tend to be alarmingly busy and are often fully booked for months in advance. If you are a large group you may find that apartment accommodation in Bournemouth prove to be cheap option to Bournemouth bed & breakfast accommodation.

Incredible Harris Vacations

Is your family deliberating about taking a short break in the United Kingdom? Though the largest numbers of visitors having a UK vacation decide to stay in popular destinations like London, other people prefer to visit places such as Scotland. In the article below I talk about the Isle of Harris and why it makes such a fantastic destination for vacations.

Even though London might have some of the most interesting galleries and museums in the United Kingdom  and some of the most popular tourist attractions  the capital city of England can not appeal to everyone.

Some tourists prefer vacations which are more relaxed and far less hectic while other folk would rather have more action packed vacations for example sports vacations. Strangely the Isle of Harris, in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides (or Western Isles), appeals both types of visitor.

Like a great many other people spending the whole of my vacation on the beach has never really been the type of thing I would do. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy a relaxing visit to a sunny beach, and the Isle of Harris certainly has some of the most picturesque beaches in Britain, however, I also like to travel a little inland too. I thoroughly enjoy taking in the atmosphere, I also like to experience the local food and culture. To be honest each year I enjoy visiting new places and I try extremely hard trying to find something or somewhere one hundred percent unique. This is the most likely reason why I enjoy visiting the Hebrides island named the Isle of Harris and why I frequently decide to stay in a self catering house on Harris.

One of the primary reasons people visit the Isle of Harris is to enjoy the the culture and landscape of the islands. The Harris culture has, through the generations been massively influenced by the English, Scottish, Norse and Celtic races. Nowadays Gaelic is the most widely spoken language and although some talk in English, it is most commonly their 2nd language. The folk of the Isle of Harris are amongst the friendliest on earth and their hospitality is known across the world. The people of the Isle of Harris are extremely proud of the amazingly beautiful Harris countryside and go to some length to keep the place very tidy so it is immensely important to minimize your own mess.

It is vitally important that you keep in mind that discarded litter doesn’t only make the place appear a mess it is also highly dangerous to wildlife.

Another vital point to remember is that the Harris roads are a little unusual you commonly come across stretches of single track road and you will will be required to use passing places to safely allow oncoming traffic to pass but also to let traffic from behind to pass. All you need do is come to a stop on the left hand side of the road. But, If it is an extremely large vehicle wishing to pass and the passing place is on the right hand side of the road you may pull up into it to allow the big vehicle pass easily but at all time take care not to drive off the road too much.

I hope that the above article sufficiently interests you in having a short break or vacation on the Isle of Harris. Large numbers of visitors the Outer Hebrides of Scotland choose to stay in two destinations. There are a few other islands to visit including Lewis, North and South Uist. Why don’t you think about staying in a self catering house on the Isle if Harris for a short while and then book a room in a hotel on North Uist or a South Uist hotel for the remainder of your holiday?
