Scotland is a sensational destination for a vacation. It is hugely popular with ramblers, hill-walkers, mountain climbers, hikers and other tourists of that kind. Nearly all people enjoy the contrasting and beautiful countryside which has a fantastic list of sites to visit including some famous, and jaw-dropping, areas of outstanding beauty. One of these sites which is, probably the most well known is Loch Ness and the famous Nessie. In the following article I introduce this most interesting Loch Ness as place in which to take a vacation.
The loch Ness monster is first documented in history in the story of the life of St Columba. Supposedly the revered saint charmed a sea monster back into the loch after it had been attacking one of his men.
At the start of the nineteen thirties a new road was constructed which ran along the banks of Loch Ness. After only a couple of years in nineteen thirty four stories concerning sightings of a monster of epic proportions started to feature in newspapers.
Inverness, often referred to as being the capital city of the Highlands, was ceremoniously granted city status in the year 2001 and at the moment is the only city in the Highlands of Scotland. Uniquely (in the United Kingdom) the city has no legal boundaries which can cause problems with population assessments. The problems are made worse because of the fact that the population of Inverness is increasing at a dramatic rate, Inverness has the UK’s highest growth rate. One fact we know for certain is that the population of Inverness is fairly content, Inverness came fifth in a survey taken, by the Telegraph.co.uk (2008), of 189 UK cities for quality of life. From this we can safely state that Inverness is a lovely city in which to spend some time and this is most likely one of the reasons which make Inverness incredibly popular with tourists. Luckily there is a large number of Inverness hotels with most of it being available to book online.
An important thing to remember is that Inverness’s airport is, roughly, seven miles from the city at Dalcross. It is relatively easy to hail a cab or catch a bus to the small but busy airport which is fairly cheap. If you require a map of Inverness then you will find them free at the tourist office, on Castle Wynd. While you are taking a city break in Inverness you should make a point to visit the Mercat Cross and ‘stone of tubs’, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery and Inverness Castle especially the Castle Garrison Encounter, a fun interactive experience.
If you are interested in having a Scottish vacation based in Inverness and Loch Ness then you can discover Inverness bed and breakfast online by searching for “Inverness hotel accommodation” or “Inverness bed and breakfast” into your favorite search engine (the inverted commas/quotation marks can help a great deal).
