The availability of serviced and unserviced apartments has created accommodation options for longer stays with self catering. Apartments provide an variation to the usual hotel suite and go some way to providing a home away from home atmosphere.  Some apartments have fully equipped kitchens with self catering capability and others have kitchenettes with only limited cooking capability.

Melbourne hosts numerous special events throughout the whole year. The Melbourne Cup, the Formula 1 MotoGP, the AFL footbal final, the Australian Open tennis are just a some of the major events that attract huge numbers of visitors. Add to that list the concerts and entertainment, exhibitions and conferences and it’s easy to see why Melbourne can have a shortage of beds in the CBD and inner city at certain times.

So if you plan to visit Melbourne, the message is simple…. book your accommodation in advance.

Airport transfers may require some travel to and from your accommodation, so always make sure transfer costs are allowed in your budget. For a hassle free arrival, it’s suggested that you pre-book Melbourne airport transfers.

Being one of Australia’s smaller states means that a lot of rural Victoria is within easy reach of the major cities and towns. It’s in these easily reached rural areas that the visitor will find country lodges, homely farm stays, rural bed and breakfast, seaside beach retreats and historic guesthouses.

Victoria has a ski season in winter, complete with ski lodges set the high country. The north east region of Victoria is the place to find the snow country where there are several world class resorts with accommodation in self contained apartments and chalets as well as suites in ski resorts.

In the smaller country towns of Victoria, hotels are replaced by motor inns and motels which are the most common form of accommodation throughout all of rural Australia.

Great Theaters of Minneapolis

Minneapolis has won the regional Tony three times, more than any other city other than Chicago (which has won four times) . Minneapolis is the third largest theatre market in the country, and boasts more live theatre per capita than any other major city in the U.S. outside of New York. If you’re in Minneapolis on vacation, relocating to the city, or already live there, here are four venues of theatre you won’t want to miss:

  • Minnesota Fringe Festival. If 2009′s figures are correct, the Minnesota Fringe Festival just may be the largest fringe festival in the United States.  46,189 tickets were issued to an estimated 15,100 patrons, for a gross box office revenue of over $330,000. Performing everything from Pinter to children’s plays, the Minnesota Fringe Festival will win your heart with its boundless exuberance for all things live theatre.
  • Children’s Theatre Company. Winner of the 2003 regional Tony, the Children’s Theatre Company is one of the leading professional theatre companies for young audiences in the country . Nationally recognized playwrights such as Willie Reale and Nilo Cruz premiere works there. It has partnered with another giant, Seattle Children’s Theatre to create its own play licensing firm, Plays for Young Audiences. Children’s Theatre Company serves between 275,000 to 350,000 children and their families annually. Its emphasis is on new play development, theatre arts training, stage productions, community partnerships and an annual regional tour. Their plays are equally enjoyable for adults as for children , so be sure to take your kids if you’re in Minneapolis with family.
  • Brave New Workshop. Their shows have crazy titles such as “Shedding Light All Over Your Good Black Skirt,” and “On a Clear Day You Can See Your Mother.” Founded in the mid-1950s by a circus star, Brave New Workshop was one of the first theatres in the country to dedicate themselves exclusively to the art of improvisation . illustrious alumni have gone on to MADTV and other well-known television programs. Catch the next generation of comedians before they become stars at this year’s locally famous holiday show.
  • Guthrie Theatre. The Guthrie is one of the most recognizable players in the American theatrical landscape. It premieres works by nationally recognized playwrights, and partners with the University of Minnesota’s acting department to foster young talent. More than 32,000 people hold subscriptions to the Guthrie’s season each year. Strive to be one of them.

The great American theatre director Paul Sills once said that theatre is about community. One of the best ways to participate in the city of Minneapolis’ community is by attending the theatre, and by getting involved in the dialogue of the arts and culture scene. As a native, transplant, or tourist to the area Minneapolis you won’t get a real taste for Minneapolis unless you do.
